Welcome Anne:

I am not as familiar with Jon Kabat-Zin as many of the other folks
around here, but I did here where an HMO in the Pacific NW is giving a
class based on his material, unfortunately its about a 4 hour drive one
way.

As far as mindfulness goes, this class has been of great benefit to me
and it offers a number of pluses not the least is the lack of tuition.
I find that it is nice to be able to "drop" into class when it fits my
schedule rather than from 7-9pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

As far as forgetting to be mindful, again welcome to the class. I know
this happens with me all the time. As you read through some of the
classes and posts from previous semesters there are a number of methods
for "reminding" ourselves to wake up. A few that have worked for me
include some regular time or activity such as washing dishes or taking
a shower. I have used a bell on my computer which goes off randomly.

I have found that it is easiest to start when I am by myself and not
distracted by others, which makes it interesting in a house full of
kids, but that is sort of the point of this whole thing, to be able to
be mindful without having to retreat to a monastery. For me the peace
and quiet would be nice for a while, but I would soon miss the smiles
and laughter of my kids and spouse.

So I keep on not being judgemental about my minduflness practice. I
have beat myself up over and over through the years for "failing" at
this or that. But here there is no failing grade.
