John,
I really GET that the key to doing this Transformative Work in great
depth is becoming aware of the Personality Bullshit that inevitably
pops up to drive love, joy, kindness, health from human relationships.
I feel privileged to be the class' case study so to speak and look
forward to the completion of the jigsaw puzzle. Right now I'm working
to remove the plank from my own eye but later when I become habitually
aware of my own springloaded personality recations I hope I will be
able to be careful to remove the speck of sawdust in my brother's eye.
Tolle said that we should always be just as interested in our
reactions to people and events in our life as to the people and events
themselves. I've been watching my reactions to the posts by Sally, Lou,
and others and what is coming to awareness to me is how when I'm hurt
by others I automatically MINIMIZE the pain because after all to my
subconscious mind --painful bullshit is after all "only to be
expected." Sartre's line from No Exit has been ringing through my voice
overs ever since I read Sally's post. The line, "Hell is other people."
And that is precisely why this Wheelbook Exercise is so useful and
important. Human Relationship as Spiritual Practice is to my mind where
the real "dirty work" of regeneration must perforce be accomplished.
I am grateful that John is skilled and powerful enough to do this
sacred, healing, edifying work with me/us as I work enthustically to
remove the friggin plank from my own eye.
If we were indeed 8 year olds in a class I imagine Lou would become my
good buddy. John would be my favorite teacher. I would play pranks on
Sally and Deirdre. I'd probably compete with Jeff for John's positive
regard. And I would spend a lot of time doing my homework!
I hope you do follow through and complete the exercise,John, but if you
don't...I'll continue on my own.
I'm sincerely grateful for the many wonderful lessons you've posted
here in class.
Sally, take a chill pill---all you need is Love!
