He's seven. At bed time we brush our teeth together in the double
sink in my bath and he invariably leaves the water running. I used to
turn it off for him but stopped that and began to "remind" him to turn
it off. Equally as frustrating for me as turning it off for him (or
was it me I turned it off for). The other day after talking with my
wife about the authentic communication section of the training I made
an attempt with him at the basin. "John you've left the water
running." I spoke in the flatest tone I could manage. I'd made
similiar comments before but probably with an edge of anger. He kept
walking to the loo to pee and I said, "When I speak and you don't
respond it feels like I'm not here." He looked up, walked back to the
basin, and turned off the water. Did I "guilt" him? He's such a love
and having been rejected repeatedly by his mother, it breaks my heart
to wake up to my rejecting him. Tears in my eyes now. Looks like I'll
be in kindergarten for a while. Impatience is one of my worst enemies.
Need a break. Best regards, Student John.
