A yellow lab mix teacher
Posted by Student John on May 01, 2002 at 13:48:51:

This morning while my household sleeps yellow lab mix joins me on my
canyon walk. I think he’s a neighborhood dog but I am not sure. I
try to shoo him back home but he’s having none of it. He’s coming
along. He doesn’t want petting just a traveling companion. I feel
that I will be criticized by those we meet as he’s not on a leash and
the canyon policy is that dogs are to be on a leash. I formulate my
unnecessary response, “He’s not mine!” (being prepared to be judged)
He meets a couple of other dogs with their owners, tussles playfully
with them and then resumes his walk with me. Sometimes I lead, some
time he does. He often looks back from the trail to see if I’m coming
and then continues on. We’re gone an hour and as we near where we
joined up he’s in the lead and as I turn the corner he’s gone! A
yellow lab mix gives an old man a lesson for his grandson. Student
John.
