changing the mix Posted by rob on October 28, 2002 at 11:23:33:
Hi everyone:
I take the commuter rail train into work from the suburb where I live
into Boston. I have gotten in the habit of getting on the first car,
sitting near the front and being one of the first off the train in
Boston so I don't have to walk down the platform at the station in
Boston and can get through the station without being held up by other
people walking in front of me. Then I walk from the station to my
building and start my work day.
Today, (because I had to use the lavatory which is in the last car) I
got on the last car of the train. The car was almost empty. It was a
quite ride in and I didn't seem to mind getting off the car near the
back of the line. I strolled down the platform with most of the other
passengers in front of me.
Today, I realized that I had much lower stress about going to work than
usual. I didn't get the wound up feeling that I usually do. Instead of
being in the FIRST car, being the FIRST out of car, and pushing myself
to GET TO WORK, I felt what is feels like to be less concerned about
being first.
Changing the mix in this way helped me to wake up to the ride in
instead of sleepwalking through the train ride as I usually do.
I remember coach saying, change the mix, and today, without meaning to
it happened and I am reminded of the value in doing this.
Love to all,
Rob
